a quiet love
Da'Sha Paz-Tillis

love and beauty is more than the extravagant.
more than open, loud, and blatant professions
I’d like to think there’s pockets of love and beauty in the simple matters of life
————— in the early morning wet hair days,
the lingering grin as you leave a beloved place,
the humming within your hall,
the synchronized laugh in a college class,
the slight smiles of acknowledgment as you pass,
the light of a desk lamp you forgot to turn off that bellows into the darkness and sings to the day,
the trees whistling as the wind blows,
the plants a ditch somehow grows,
the peacefulness brought along with the morning,
the faint laughter that seeps through the walls from the room next to yours
although love could be shouted,
maybe love could be a sweet, gentle, kind, and patient whisper
a daily kind of love you choose to wait for, choose to feel, choose to see, and choose to hear
you never know what might appear.
