Photography and Art
Art should make you feel something. Art can make you feel like that first time you come home after a long trip or the feeling you get when a new season in life is about to start, scary and hesitant, yet endless and full of possibilities. Art can cause someone to see something in a new light or in a different way. Art should make you think. Art should cause a surge of thoughts about life, the human condition, past, present, future and everything in between.

This piece is based off of Matthew 5:14-16. As believers we should let the light of Christ shine in us, unashamed, so that others see it is and glorify God. This is a visual representation of how our lives should look--vibrant and distinct from the dark world that we live in. I made this piece with a stamp that I carved out and then applied onto the paper with ink. -Morgan Walden, Artist
This photo was taken on an early morning walk in Warsaw, Poland. It was a chilly and foggy morning that produced great picture opportunities. -Brenna VanMeter, Artist
When I think of light overtaking darkness, I often think about the life that comes from it. I feel this piece demonstrates what happens when light has come through and has overtaken darkness. Light spreads out and draws attention to it; therefore, it becomes a calling for those who are drawn to it. Just like a flower needs sunlight to grow, so do God’s people to maintain our purpose that He has placed inside each and every one of us. -Meagan Rangel, Artist
There are moments in life when we find ourselves surrounded by the weeds of life, struggling to find the light. Just as this sunflower though, we need to not give up on seeking the light. Little by little as we find it, we will grow and learn and blossom into the person God is making us to be. -Aneesa Royce, Artist
This piece came from a time in my life when I felt like I was a in a dark hole that I had dug myself into. After months of feeling like this I was sitting in church one day when I closed my eyes I saw myself climbing out of a hole. Rung by rung I could feel myself healing little by little and I felt God speak to my heart, “Even when you cannot feel me, even when you feel all alone I am there and I am healing you little by little, even when you cannot see or feel it. -Aneesa Royce, Artist
One of the best ways we can overcome is by serving others. When we take a step back and follow Jesus’ example of servanthood we overcome the things that we are going through by choosing to love on others despite our own situation. -Kimberly Balderas, Artist
My sister Tina became my mentor in life. There was a time in my life where I was headed down a very dark past. However, I was blessed to have a sister that cared about me and helped me get out of that life and lead a new life in Christ. I would not be a SAGU if it was not for her believing in me and what God has called me to do. I love her and I am so blessed that she is in my life. -Serena Clark, Artist
Ever since the fall of man, we have all had a little light in us and a little dark. We were made to be fully light, but we chose to be dark. There was only one way to save us from ourselves, Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. Some days we choose the dark and some days we choose the light. As we continue to choose the light and defy our selfish desires, we will overcome the dark within us. -Aneesa Royce, Artist
I wanted to make something that made people think, I wanted people to understand what I was trying to get across about reaching the world but in a creative way. I originally planned to just have a globe and two eyes but reaching the lost is in our hearts so I found it more meaningful to combine the globe and heart to show how we need to reach people from our heart and have the three eye colors representing all people instead of just two. -Alyssa Kaylor, Artist
